MOLDING PROCESSES
Wild Speed Corpration uses three methods of molding:
compression, transfer, and injection. Each has their own
advantages of with respect to the required quality and
economics. The basic principle of molding rubber and
TPE goods simplyinvolves placing an uncured compound
in a heated metal mold. The stock softens with heat and
flows when pressure is applied, filling in the cavities. On completion the curing cycle
the material becomes an elastic body which is no longer thermoplastic and is removed
from the cavities while still hot. When cool, it is ready for the finishing operation and
use.
Compression Molding

Conventional compression is the simplest

process of molding and requires the
lowest tooling expense.

Transfer Molding

Transfer molding generally entails more

expensive tooling and a smaller number
of cavities, but the advantages of this
type of molding usually outweigh the additional cost. Closer tolerances, less parting
line flash, better filled cavities, and more uniform physical properties are factors
favorable to transfer type moldings.

Injection Molding
The advantages of production by the
injection method generally are: Faster
cycles. Produces minimum flash molded
parts, requiring very little finishing cure
expenses. Uniformity in finished
vulcanized properties.
